At the workshop, Kiyoshi Fujiwara, Mazda Executive Officer in charge of project planning and development, suggested unofficially that Mazda engineers think they ultimately may be able to approach 60% thermal efficiency with combustion engines for light duty vehicles. Extreme compression ratio rather than downsizing.
