In the aftermath of the summer sales boom fueled by the US Cash for Clunkers program, September 2009 light duty vehicles sales dropped back to pre-incentive lows. September 2009 had 25 sales days compared to 24 days for September 2008. September 2009 SAAR. Ford sold 2,138 hybrids in September, up 116% year-on-year.

Buoyed by the US government’s CARS (“Cash for Clunkers”) program, US auto sales slowed their decline in the US in July, dropping on 12.1% to 19,173 units) and Ford hybrids (up 323% to 5,353 units). Retail sales were down 9% while fleet sales declined 47%. Compared to June 2009, volume was up nearly 12,000 vehicles.

Buoyed by the extension of the US Cash for Clunkers (CARS) program, as well as the availability of more hybrid models on the market, reported sales of hybrids in the US jumped 48.6% There were 26 selling days in August 2009, vs. 27 in August 2008. Compared to July 2009 results, however, hybrid sales rose 9.2%
