Valence’s Saphion technology, commercially introduced in 2002, refers to the processes and materials used in developing the novel patented lithium iron magnesium phosphate cathode materials. The vehicle is slated to arrive at select Ford dealers in 2010. By comparison, nickel-based Li-ion systems have a cathode voltage of 3.8V.
