General Motors was one of the original pioneers of electric cars, introducing the EV1 in 1996 and the game-changing Volt in 2010. Chevrolet has continued that trend in the last few years—emerging as a major leader in the electric vehicle industry. The automaker has recently released a slew of new vehicles on the market aimed at meeting the needs of a variety of potential EV drivers.

Budget models like the Chevrolet Bolt EV, SUV crossovers like the Equinox Blazer EV, electric versions of popular legacy models like the Blazer EV, and high-performance trucks like the Silverado EV make up what is becoming an impressive lineup of all-electric options.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at one of Chevy’s most popular, affordable, and revolutionary offerings, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV. We’ll also explore the best ways to save money on the purchase of a Bolt EUV by taking advantage of available EV incentives with an EV Climate Loan through EV Life.

2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Pricing, Specs, and Performance

The Bolt EUV offers a lot of bang for the buck, especially considering that Chevrolet knocked $6,300 off the starting MSRP in 2023. The EUV is available in two different trims, the LT and Premier. Both come with a 200-hp electric motor, provide an EPA-estimated 247 miles in range, and are available in front-wheel drive only.

Chevy Bolt EUV Premier Trim

The upper-tier Premier trim comes with additional luxury and safety features, including leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with heat and ventilation, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Chevy also introduced its new Redline Edition package, which gives the Bolt EUV Premier a sportier appearance with 17-inch black aluminum wheels, red accents on the wheels and side mirror caps, and black and red badges.

Storage Space and Charging

The five-passenger Bolt EUV is longer, wider, and taller than the original Bolt EV hatchback and offers 16.3 cubic feet of storage space. For power, the Bolt EUV can be charged on a standard 120-volt household outlet as well as a 240-volt connection for faster charges. It can also utilize DC fast charging, which can provide up to 95 miles of range in just 30 minutes.

New Life for Chevrolet Bolt EUV

Great news for fans of Chevy’s most popular and affordable electric SUV.

Chevrolet initially announced in April that it would not be continuing production on the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV after 2023. The company cited their move to Chevy’s new Ultium electric vehicle platform that will be featured in the new Blazer EV, Silverado EV, and Equinox EV, and the need to shift manufacturing resources towards other models as reasons for the discontinuation. Chevy did hint that the Bolt may eventually live on as an Ultium-based EV at some point in the future but stated that the model’s current generations would its last for the time being.

However, just months after the announcement in April that the Bolt would be no more, GM reversed course. The automaker put out a statement in July 2023 that the Bolt would indeed be shifting onto the company’s new Ultium platform, and new models would start production soon.

While this comes as a surprise to many, given the abrupt about-face by Chevrolet, it makes sense. The Bolt’s sales in the first half of 2023 were the strongest they’ve ever been, and Chevy wants to capitalize on that momentum by delivering new, updated versions of the popular and affordable EV.

Save Big on Your Bolt EUV with EV Incentives

At a starting MSRP of under $28,000 (compared with the average price of nearly $60,000 for new electric vehicles), the Chevy Bolt EUV is a steal. But the low sticker price is not the end of your potential savings.

There are numerous federal, state, and local programs aimed at subsidizing EV purchases for consumers, and the Chevy Bolt EUV meets the vehicle eligibility requirements for nearly all of them. Here are a few programs available that can help you save even more on your Bolt EUV.

Federal, State, and Local EV Incentives

  • Federal Tax Credit. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 introduced a new federal EV tax credit of up to $7,500 for qualified drivers looking to purchase an electric vehicle. All Bolt trims now qualify to use the federal EV tax credit of $7,500, and effective January 2024, the tax credit is available as a point-of-sale discount. But that’s just the beginning.
  • The California Clean Cars 4 All program helps lower-income Californians by offering cash incentives of up to $9,500 to retire their older gas-powered vehicles and invest in EVs.
  • Colorado Electric Vehicle Tax Credit. The newly expanded Colorado EV tax credit offers all Colorado residents who purchase an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with an MSRP of up to $80,000 a tax credit of up to $5,000. Effective January 1, 2024, new electric vehicles priced under $35,000 MSRP are eligible for an additional $2,500 state tax credit.
  • Other State & Local Incentives. There are also plenty of state and local EV incentives available. Check EV Life’s Savings Calculator to see what you qualify for.
