Used Car of the Day: 2006 Saturn Ion Redline

Saturn made just 260 2006 Saturn Ion Redlines in the color red, and today's UCOTD is one of them.

According to the seller, this car has been well-maintained and runs and drives well.

It's a manual with a sunroof. It has Recaro seats, A/C, and cruise control and the only flaws seem to be a crack in the dash and some cosmetic issues, such as a worn seat. It apparently also needs some paint.

As a reminder, these cars had a 205-horsepower supercharged four-cylinder and a rear spoiler. Saturn built 5,827 between 2004 and 2007.

This one can be yours for $5,900.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Tim may believe that Saturn is the most wanted brand in the US

When these came out, along with the Cobalt and HHR SS, the auto press was GaGa over 200+ HP and better handling. I was daily'ing a Focus SVT and was intrigued by the torquey boosted EcoTec, so I drove a Cobalt and HHR SS at the local Chevy store ( no consideration given to the goofy and ugly Saturn with the stupid half door). What a disappointment. A Chevy Cobalt with 200 HP is just a faster POS. The same crap interior, awful fit and finish and terrible driving dynamics. The manual shifter felt like a stick in a bowl of Oatmeal. I hated it, the dealer knew so and immediate said they'll knock 5k off sticker. No thanks. I drove away in the Focus lamenting it's total lack of low-end torque but otherwise pretty happy to have it. Never gave one of these a second thought and zero interest in this one.

  • SPPPP I am actually a pretty big Alfa fan ... and that is why I hate this car.
  • SCE to AUX They're spending billions on this venture, so I hope so.Investing during a lull in the EV market seems like a smart move - "buy low, sell high" and all that.Key for Honda will be achieving high efficiency in its EVs, something not everybody can do.
  • ChristianWimmer It might be overpriced for most, but probably not for the affluent city-dwellers who these are targeted at - we have tons of them in Munich where I live so I “get it”. I just think these look so terribly cheap and weird from a design POV.
  • NotMyCircusNotMyMonkeys so many people here fellating musks fat sack, or hodling the baggies for TSLA. which are you?
