The landscape of premium battery electric vehicles (BEVs) is highly competitive, and recent data from J.D. Power sheds light on how these vehicles stack up in terms of customer satisfaction.

Top-Ranked Premium BEVs

At the top of the customer satisfaction index, the BMW i4 leads with a score of 800 out of a possible 1,000 points. This reflects a strong approval from consumers, underscoring the vehicle's quality and reliability.

Close on its heels are Rivian's offerings, with the R1T pickup and R1S SUV scoring 789 and 778, respectively. These models highlight the expanding diversity in the premium electric market and Rivian's prominent position within it.

Tesla, a well-known name in the electric vehicle industry, has two models in the top five. The Tesla Model 3, with a score of 756, and the Model Y, just slightly behind at 752, demonstrate the brand's consistent performance in customer satisfaction.

Industry Standards and Expectations

The segment average score sits at 750, serving as a benchmark for the industry. Vehicles scoring above this average are seen as leaders in satisfying customers' expectations.

Customer Satisfaction and Market Trends

These rankings reflect broader market trends, where premium electric vehicles are being evaluated not just on their environmental credentials or innovation but on traditional factors such as vehicle quality, driving experience, and the cost-effectiveness of ownership.

Charging Infrastructure Still a Hurdle

Despite high scores in vehicle satisfaction, the industry continues to grapple with the adequate provision of public charging infrastructure—a factor that could significantly impact the future growth and customer satisfaction within the EV market.

  • TheMrFreeze Techron actually works...I've personally seen Techron solve a fuel-related issue in one of my vehicles and have been using it for the last 20 years as a result. Add a bottle to the tank every time I do an oil change, have never had fuel delivery issues since.
  • Redapple2 Let me think here. Big 3 sell 10,000,000 cars in the US in the last x years. Volvo, Toyota, Honda, MB sell 1.000.000. Big 3 have ZERO cars on the hi mile list.Hum: What does that mean? I know what it means.
  • THX1136 That's so cool. This one is close to what I had accumulated with the 84 Shelby Charger I owned. Since it only had a 5 digit odo no one would know it had over 406k. I kept track of everyplace it turned over with only 2 still lodged in my 71 yo brain. If I had taken care of it cosmetically as well as I did mechanically I still think I could have gotten to 500k which was a goal I set for myself. The Toyota mentioned is quite impressive at over 900k. Thanks for the write up, Murilee!
  • Kwik_Shift_Pro4X Nice to see. I like the Top 10 list and seeing "80s Mercedes" within.
  • Redapple2 jeffbut they (gm) dont want to ... their (gm ) pick up is 4th behind ford/ram, Toyota. GM has the Best engineers in the world. (gm has )More truck profit than the other 3 (manufacturers (ford, ram , toyota)). (The combined sales of ) Silverado + Sierra+ Tahoe + Yukon sales = (yields ) 2x ford total (profit from trucks) @ $15,000 profit per. (therefore gm has )Tons of $ (money ) to invest in the BEST truck. No. They make crap. Garbage. Evil gm Vampire. (expound / corrections )
