Mercedes-AMG One Burns to Crisp in Transport Truck
The Mercedes-AMG One blends Formula 1 drivetrain tech with a futuristic body in a surprising road-legal package. Its $2.7-plus-million cost and 275-unit limited production run are exclusive enough that most of us will never see one, but an unlucky future owner recently lost their hybrid hypercar to a devastating fire before it was complete, meaning only 274 AMG One units will make it into the wild.
The Sun reported that the car was being transported in a trailer when the truck’s brakes started a fire. A Mercedes-AMG spokesperson said the automaker is “aware of this incident involving a car that was being transported in a closed trailer as part of its assembly process.”
The One just started rolling off the production line late last year, and while we don’t know how many have been built so far, there aren’t bins of spare parts lying around for repairs. Mercedes detailed the production process for the car, which includes moving partially assembled pieces between facilities and transporting the vehicle to a track for testing, so it’s possible the fire happened between those steps.
We joke about there being fewer Mercedes-AMG One cars on the road, but the expense and extreme exclusivity mean that the automaker will probably build an extra to make up for the burned-out car. Even if they didn’t, the shell and singed components could still probably sell for a surprising amount on one of the online car auction sites.

"Mercedes-AMG One Burns to Crisp" The body is entirely carbon fiber, so it was fairly crispy to start with. 😉
"others claim the fire actually started from the brakes of the truck that was hauling..." So the fire started on the truck brakes and spread to the trailer? That sounds like an extra (unnecessary, unlikely) step. Towed? Truck? Trailer? All kinds of imprecise terminology floating around. This is why engineers lose patience with us regular people. 🙃

Bro, I actually saw a Mercedes AMG ONE driving in Tennessee the other day, but one less automatic, I agree. Manual is better. You have to learn the combos' or face the consequence of your engine shutting DOOoown. 🤣
