Used Car of the Day: 2016 Volkswagen GTI

We're going back to the VW well today with this two-door 2016 Volkswagen GTI.

Yes, it's a manual.

It has the Performance Package and Lighting Package and appears to be in mostly good shape, save a malfunctioning fog light and minor dents and dings. There are some other cosmetic issues, as well.

Mods are limited to an intercooler and rear quick alignment arms. There's also tints and a bunch of maintenance work has been done recently.

Click here to check out this Oklahoma-based ride with its 69,420 (giggle) miles. The ask is $16,500 or best offer.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

I have to credit the owner... he made it his own. Having said that, he is either blind, tasteless or an enormous poser. Why pray tell would you take a Cayenne decal and put it ALLLLL THE WAY around a 2 door GTI?

Just spell out "poser" instead of turbo. At least it would be a respectable advertisement as to the owner's character.

VW GTi people think their cars all share "Porsche DNA" since Ferdinand Porsche was friends with Hitler and all.

I loved driving all of the VWs I've owned however, like every stripper named Tiffany, none were reliable enough to keep.

Though strippers named Mercedes are ironically quite reliable I've found.

  • Bob Hey Tassos, have you seen it with top down. It's a permanent roll bar so if it flips no problem. It's the only car with one permanently there. So shoots down your issue. I had a 1998 for 10 years it was perfect, but yes slow. Hardly ever see any of them anymore.

  • ChristianWimmer 2018 Mercedes A250 AMG Line (W177) - no issues or unscheduled dealer visits. Regular maintenance at the dealer once a year costs between 400,- Euros (standard service) to 1200,- Euros (major service, new spark plugs, brake pads + TÜV). Had one recall where they had to fix an A/C hose which might become loose. Great car and fun to drive and very economical but also fast. Recently gave it an “Italian tune up” on the Autobahn.
  • Bd2 Lexus is just a higher trim package Toyota. ^^
  • Tassos ONLY consider CIvics or Corollas, in their segment. NO DAMNED Hyundais, Kias, Nissans or esp Mitsus. Not even a Pretend-BMW Mazda. They may look cute but they SUCK.I always recommend Corollas to friends of mine who are not auto enthusiasts, even tho I never owed one, and owned a Civic Hatch 5 speed 1992 for 25 years. MANY follow my advice and are VERY happy. ALmost all are women.friends who believe they are auto enthusiasts would not listen to me anyway, and would never buy a Toyota. They are damned fools, on both counts.
