Hate Against Any One of Us Is a Threat and Harm to All of Us

I feel compelled to send a message about the rise in violent attacks against Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). In the past year, almost 4,000 reported anti-Asian hate incidents have been reported and studies have shown that most hate crimes go unreported, so the impact is likely an order of magnitude greater. The shootings in Atlanta a week ago were unconscionable and are another example of the disgusting and reprehensible behavior by certain people lashing out senselessly.

As EVCers and a community focused on making the world a better place through all that we do, we will denounce these senseless and deplorable acts of violence and racism against the AAPI community and any group singled out because of what they look like, where they are from, whom they worship, and whom they love.

This violence stems from a history of pervasive racism, misogyny and xenophobia that continually dehumanizes AAPIs and other groups by people who are generally unhappy with their own lives, and then look for scapegoats to blame it on. The recent surge in anti-Asian rhetoric throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has only served to amplify incidents of hatred and violence perpetrated against the AAPI community.

We stand together as a company and community to condemn these violent acts of hatred and the demonizing of the AAPI community, and work together to combat racism in all of its forms. We acknowledge and denounce the ongoing anti-Asian hate crimes, racism, and marginalization of all kinds.

Hate against any one of us is a threat and harm to all of us – I’m not sure who said this, but we must live this in our daily lives. I look forward to your thoughts on how our community can do more to stop this deplorable behavior.
