I'm seeing 10k discounts on Chevy ICE pickups and similar discounts on Jeep Gladiator ICE vehicles. Ford Canada has 0% finance rates on ICE trucks and 0.99% on Lightning trucks.

If you are going to mention discounts then you have to mention all of the discounts offered by a car company for similar models.

True there are substantial discounts on ICE pickups and Jeep Gladiators. Discounts are not just limited to EVs. EVs seem to bring out the trolls. When TTAC posts an article about EVs it frees another troll from under its bridge free to roam the comment section.

The difference for people who understand anything about business is that ICE pickup trucks have immense profit margins at MSRP while F150 Lightnings and Mustang Mach-Es are sold at a loss at MSRP. It's bad news for the manufacturers that ICE trucks aren't producing the surpluses that they need to subsidize their compliance products, but it is an illustration of the folly of manipulating markets that EVs that were already producing massive losses are now giant sucking wounds.

Please! This is not a place for facts like that. All incentives are the same and any distinction you highlight just makes you anti-EV.

The entire market is still overpriced and being dragged back to reality. The Lightning was among the worst offenders and on top of that we got a typical Ford product launch. They will need to get cheaper still...like the prices they said theyd be prior to introducing them.

As difficult as this will be to believe by the cult, speaking truth about the mounting losses in the EV space by legacy automakers is simply the market speaking. ATP for EVs is still substantially higher than ICE vehicles.

You can't escape this reality. Tesla built a brand as much as EVs. Their shoddy build quality is being forgiven. GM, Ford, Mercedes and the others are building EV turds with reliability problems far beyond the logistical concerns of charging and seat cushions flattening out prematurely. In our quest for our next ride, we visited a Mercedes dealer over the weekend and the sales rep was surprisingly candid about the problems their EVs are having.

Except for Tesla, EV pricing will continue to torpedo sales.

Really depends how Ford spreads its R&D costs across #of vehicles sold.

@Carson D - It is disingenuous to cite discounts for a Lightning without pointing out equivalent discounts for the F150. Discounts are to move products. That applies to EV's and ICE powertrains.

@Lou_BC - Maybe we should discuss why the Section 179-fueled house of cards that is the Detroit-3's profit center is collapsing. It seems odd when the news keeps telling us that the economy is booming.

I only read the EV articles, because those are the only vehicles which interest me.

After owning an EV for a year and a half, ICE vehicles and used cars both land in the same place in my brain. Used cars are perfectly useful devices, but I expect a big discount upfront for the hassles and the increased running costs. [shrug]
