Used Car of the Day: 2002 Acura RSX Type-S

Today's UCOTD speaks to my personal biases -- I have a weird thing for the Acura RSX. Even this beat-up 2002 Acura RSX Type-S catches my eye.

The car has been in storage for three years, so it will need some work to get running. But it does have the six-speed manual transmission and just 78,000 miles. The seller says it runs well, or at least did, but obviously, the battery is dead after three years of storage.

There are cosmetic issues -- faded paint, a crack in the rear bumper, and door dings. But otherwise the car appears to be in good shape and is stock, save for a car alarm.

The seller is based in San Francisco and asks $7,000.

Obsolete, Overpriced, and Uninteresting to collect.
Unsafe at any speed to drive (little PASSIVE safety, poor active safety).

  Glad to see you're hitting your daily quota; keep toiling on the troll farm. We had actual RSX owners comment and this is the best you can do? Tim keeps us amused; you keep us dismayed. I humbly suggest you accelerate your downward spiral.

I have a stock 02 type-S in my garage that is way nicer albeit with more mileage. I still drive it a few times a week and it still makes me smile. I was recently offered $10K but there isn't anything as fun you could daily for that money.

  That's awesome that you still have and drive yours. Keep the miles down and the condition good and that $10K offer will likely go way up in a few years. The only thing that I saw wear badly was the leather on the seats. Everything else held up great. Same experience? Even the original stock tires lasted a lot longer than they should, and the paint - sometimes a Honda issue with the darker colors? No problems. That, and the S2000, makes me wish that Honda didn't have to turbocharge everything because the thrill of the high redline and the scream of the engine combined with the vibrations in your feet...it's missed in a lot of today's cars that tend to feel more clinical...more sterile, perhaps. I can compare driving the NA Miata vs. the current ND MX-5. Sure I have more power, more safety gear, and even a little more room (but still no real interior storage), but I don't have the surgeon's feel steering of the NA and NB. And I can take an educated guess and say the same thing between the missed RSX Type-S and the current Integra. I've driven an Integra Type-R and the S2000 - the word "savage" comes to mind when it comes to how they like to be driven and what they give back, and how I wish Honda would give us one more car like that again.

Tim You can't buy Fisker for $27 million. All that buys is the shares, which are basically worthless at this point. To buy the company you have to ante up the $1.3 billion owed to its creditors, otherwise they'll just take it away from you in a few weeks.For all we know the house may also be leveraged to the hilt. That seems to be how this guy rolls.Still, if I had to choose, I'd choose the house. I hate EVs.
Wjtinfwb Coveted one of these back in '76-'77. I was a new driver, Dad had traded Mom's Cougar XR-7 convertible for a new Volare' wagon, the worst possible car for a 16 year old. I was saving money, sold a motorcycles and was about $1500 short of the list price of the new, Black on Black '77 Celica GT Liftback on the showroom floor at Zinn Toyota. Dad, had a friend who owned Reinhart VW in Miami. OK, a '77 Scirocco would be an acceptable alternative. But the Scirocco was similarly out of reach. Instead, they made us a (admittedly good) deal on a '77 Rabbit 2dr., $3400 with A/C, mandatory in S. Florida. I was excited about driving anything other than the Volare and jumped on the Rabbit deal. Of course the Rabbit, while a fun car to drive when running, was an unreliable POS and my dad's buddy the dealer was zero help. Still pine for the Toyota and if I had the excess cash available would jump on this one as nice examples are getting hard to find.
InCogKneeToe Wow, memories. My Parents have a Cabin on a Lake, I have a Plow Truck and Friends, access to Lumps (old tired autos). What happens? Ice Racing!. The only rules were 4 cylinder, RWD only. Many Chevettes were destroyed, My Minty 1975 Acadian Hatch Auto with 62,000kms, did also. Rad, Rad Housing etc. My answer, a 1974 Corolla Hatch 4 speed, the rest of the Vettes took offence and Trashed the Yota. It was so much quicker. So rebuttal, a 1975 Celica GT Notch, 2.2L 20R, 5 Speed. Needed a New Pressure ate but once that was in, I could Lap the Vettes, and they couldn't catch me to Tag me.
28-Cars-Later I'm not sure when it was shot, but I noticed most shots featuring a Ford are pushing the BEV models which haven't sold well and financially kicked the wind out of them. Is it possible they still don't get it in Dearborn, despite statements made about hybrids etc.?
ToolGuy I watched the video. Not sure those are real people.
