Used Car of the Day: 2011 Porsche Cayenne

The point of this feature, since it appears lost on some of you, is to pick out interesting/quirky cars. We don't care if the car is in good quality or not, or if the price is right -- a competing site once had a feature about just that -- or anything like that. We just want to serve up unusual stuff as much as possible.

A manual-transmission 2011 Porsche Cayenne strikes me as unusual. I am not sure I knew this vehicle was ever offered with three pedals.

The seller claims that the vehicle is up-to-date in terms of maintenance, and it's being offloaded because his wife doesn't need it as she drives her NSX daily. Must be nice.

The title and accident history are apparently clean.

The asking price for this Boston-area ride is $23,000 and the mileage is 118,100.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

This is a proper manual transmission luxury performance turd.

At least Tim finally found a PROPER Used Car, and not a 409 year old heap of rust stolen from Murilee's column. If I cared about SUVs I might look at it.

Why buy this? Just buy a VW Toureg for a lot less.

Hard pass. That V6 is the VW VR6 used in the GTI/GLI and Passat. It's smooth and relatively reliable, but a pretty dull engine to drive. I had a couple VR6 GTI's, that engine turned them into German Monte Carlo's with a stick.
