Hagerty recently released the seventh installment of its annual Bull Market List, and while this year’s picks are mostly predictable, there are a few interesting surprises. The company’s list highlights cars that it feels are set to grow in value over the next few years, with some exotics and classics and a growing number of “Rad Era” cars every year.

Hagerty’s 2024 list includes:

· 1997-2002 Plymouth Prowler

· 1964-1966 Ford Thunderbird

· 1981-1986 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler

· 1965-1970 Chevrolet Impala SS

· 2000-2005 Jaguar XKR

· 2011-2016 Ferrari FF

· 1997-1999 Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution

· 2008-2013 BMW M3

· 1946-1950 Chrysler Town & Country

· 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary

A few of those are “duh” entries on the list, but the Prowler is kind of a dark horse. We’ve come full circle with cars like the Plymouth, reaching a point where it’s become cool unironically. The Pajero Evo is a cool choice as this year’s lone JDM entry, but it’s been aggressively climbing in price for a while now.

Hagerty’s list is meant to highlight cars that can be good values with enough research and time on the purchase side. It says it does not mean to celebrate inflated values or make specific models more expensive than they already are. Besides, as Hagerty notes, fun should be the primary goal with car buying, not necessarily making money.

I'm not surprised seeing the Scrambler added to the list. Jeeps haven't come close to reached Bronco pricing which is nice for shade tree builders.

I owned a 95 LX with the 4.6 modular from 2007 until late 2019. It was a nice driving and handling car that was quite reliable with normal maintenance. Probably one of the best vehicles I owned, though my previous 87 Thunderbird was quite solid. I sold it and upgraded to a leftover 2018 Dodge Challenger GT awd.

  Did you think the Challenger and Thunderbird are kind of close? I always felt my RT was closer in spirit to my old 95 Cougar. I've been kicking around a Super Coupe

  At the time I was shopping for a new car I cross shopped the Mustang which was on the top of my list. A decently equipped just above rental spec Ecoboost was in the mid $20k range with a number in stock to choose from. The premium package model had to be ordered and was around $33k, which I liked because it had some more features plus center auxiliary gauges that supplemented two of the air conditioning vents. I’ve always been a fan of extra gauges going back to the days of installing a set of Stewart Warners in my father’s 62 Bel Air, because idiot lights were aptly named. The main drawback of the Mustang was the rear seat and trunk space had been reduced from the previous retro 05-14 model which was roomy and usable for most people. This was also an issue with cross shopping the Camaro, which had an excellent platform but was claustrophobic inside.
  I had previously rented a Challenger RT Hemi and liked it. It packed in a lot of value for the money and its design was a few years old 2008 model year, thus being less susceptible to new teething problems. Sergio at FCA managed to improve the quality and fit and finish. Additionally its rear seat and trunk space was roomier, closer to a personal luxury coupe like the Thunderbird. So while shopping around I saw that a local dealer had an internet special on a leftover 2018 GT awd with leather, sunroof and Alpine sound for $28k, which was $10k off of the sticker. I was sold on it. Plus the awd makes up for the AMC Eagle SX4 that I passed up on buying back in the early nineties and later regretted not purchasing.

ToolGuy Real estate, like cars: One of the keys (and fairly easy to do) is to know which purchase NOT to make. Let's see: 0.43 acre lot within shouting distance of $3-4 million homes. You paid $21.8M in 2021, but want me to pay $35M now? No, thank you. (The buyer who got it for $8.5M in 2020, different story, maybe possibly.) [Property taxes plus insurance equals $35K per month? I'm out right there lol.] Point being, you can do better for that money. (At least the schools are good? Nope lol.)If I bought a car company, I would want to buy Honda. Because other automakers have to get up and go to work to make things happen, but Honda can just nap away because they have the Power of Dreams working for them. They can just rest easy and coast to greatness. Shhhh don't wake them. Also don't alert their customers lol.
