White paper highlights unparalleled performance of First Hydrogen’s FCEV

The exceptional performance of First Hydrogen’s hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered vehicle (FCEV) compared to traditional vehicles has been highlighted in a groundbreaking white paper.

In its independent report, ‘“First Hydrogen LCV Trial’, fleet management specialists Rivus compared the performance of First Hydrogen’s FCEV against similar battery electric (BEV) and diesel vehicles over the same duty cycles.

The white paper details Rivus’ experience with First Hydrogen’s FCEV, concluding: “Overall, the vehicle performed very well during testing, appearing much more robust than BEV in terms of how vehicle efficiency was affected by different load factors.”

First Hydrogen’s FCEV can decarbonise parcel delivery services significantly

First Hydrogen is the first company to showcase the potential of an FCEV for the light commercial vehicle market on UK soil.

The company is collaborating with members of the Aggregated Hydrogen Freight Consortium (AHFC) and leading fleet services to pioneer zero-emission transport over real-life duty cycles and combat range anxiety.

First Hydrogen’s FCEV technology is perfectly poised to decarbonise the parcel delivery industry. Although designed for longer journeys, their hybrid engines are optimal for shorter drives in urban and suburban areas.

The hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered vehicle is also equipped with regenerative braking that recharges the battery.

This is beneficial during journeys with lots of starts and stops, such as the journeys delivery drivers make – usually over 100 stops in a typical shift.

The FCEV also benefits from minimal vehicle downtime (the time a vehicle is off the road and out of service).

This is made possible because of rapid hydrogen refuelling stations, which take just five minutes compared to conventional electric vehicles, which can take up to five hours.

This allows daily duty cycles to be extended, meaning the FCEV is available for longer shifts across multiple drivers, boosting operational flexibility.

First Hydrogen can capitalise on $200bn market

A Global Market Insights study projects that the parcel delivery vehicle market will be worth over $210bn by 2032.

This is mainly due to the boom of the e-commerce market, with research suggesting there are 9.1 million online retailers worldwide.

The future of this growing market will greatly depend on the speed of delivery and controlling vehicle emissions, two crucial aspects that First Hydrogen’s FCEV can expertly overcome.
