The Honda EV+, Toyota RAV4EV, and the inductively-charged Nissan Hypermini were produced in Japan. The three US electric vehicles (EVs) were the iconic GM EV1 , Chrysler TEVan , and the nearly forgotten Ford RangerEV , Ford used lead-acid batteries with the expected driving range of nearly 65 miles on warm, windless summer days.

Rav Long Ranger Hybridizing Trailer The Long Ranger was an AC Propulsion project (commissioned by Toyota) to build a generator trailer that would allow liquid-fueled high-speed travel in the Rav4EV. For most practical purposes, the project was a great success that never really saw the light of day before the Rav4EV program was terminated.

In its sales pitch, Toyota plans to emphasize product attributes such as driving range, dynamic performance and telematics. A combination solution: increasingly renewable electricity as the primary fuel and ethanol as the range extender. Fuel cell cars should be plug-in hybrids so that the fuel cell is used only for extended range, and the fuel cell stack and hydrogen storage can be smaller. Otherwise well need more ethanol than we can make sustainably.
