Rivian recently rolled out two new range options for its R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV. The two new options still qualify for the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) tax incentives.
Rivian launched the Standard and Standard+ battery packs for select R1 configurations. Rivian estimates that the Standard battery pack can deliver 270 miles of range, while the Standard+ is estimated to provide up to 315 miles of range.
Rivian’s new range options are only available with specific drive systems. The Standard and Standard+ is an option with the R1T and R1S Dual-Motor AWD drive systems. The Standard battery pack is not an option with R1 vehicles with Rivian’s Performance Dual-Moto AWD drive system. Meanwhile, for R1 vehicles with Rivian’s Quad-Motor AWD configurations, the Standard and Standard+ battery packs are not an option.

The new battery packs use an NCA (Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminum) cell chemistry. Rivian plans to use lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells in the Standard battery pack later this year. The all-electric car company will also launch Tesla NACS adapters later this year.
The Standard+ battery pack costs an additional $3,100. Rivian’s Large pack with an EPA-estimated range of 352 miles costs an additional $9,100. Meanwhile, the Rivian Max battery pack will cost buyers $19,100 for an EPA-estimated 410 miles of range.
“Customers may qualify for the IRA tax incentive of $3,750 if purchasing. Leasing customers will receive [a] $7,500 EV lease credit at [the] time of purchase with no application needed!” replied Rivian on X when asked if the new battery options qualify for the IRA tax credit.
