Subaru has cut the prices of its first electric vehicle in the Australian market, just months after its official unveiling and before the first deliveries have been made.,
The price of the two variants of the Solterra AWD have been slashed by $8,000 for the base model, and $6,700 for the Touring variant. The new prices will apply to existing order holders.
The new prices are:
- Solterra AWD – $69,990 before on-roads (down from $77,990 before on-roads)
- Solterra AWD Touring – $76,990 before on-roads (down from $83,690 before on-roads)
After the price cut, Subaru will still offer a complimentary five-year servicing plan which includes roadside equipment.
On top of that, standard equipment on both variants includes a carpet mat set, cargo tray and a 2 kW mobile charger.
The decision by Subara to slash the prices of the Solterra follows a similar move by Ford to cut prices on its first electric car in the Australia market, the Mustang Mach-e, also just weeks before the first customer deliveries. Renault have done the same with the Megane e-tech.
The base Select variant of the Mach-e saw a price cut of $7,000, which although not as much as the Solterra, was still significant.
The Subaru Solterra is based on the shared EV platform used by both Subaru and Toyota. Toyotaās bz4X which is a very similar vehicle to the Solterra has not had its pricing announced just yet.Ā
If the Solterra price cuts are anything to go by, itās likely to also start under $70,000.
Subaru Solterra is offered with an AWD powertrain which delivers 160 kW of power and 337 Nm of torque. This powertrain is paired with a 71.4 kWh battery pack that can deliver up to 414 km of range.
On the charging front, 7 kW AC charging is on offer while up to 150 kW of DC charging is available at the right charger. This can get the battery charged from 20-80% in just 30 minutes.
AWD powertrain which generally has a higher ground clearance and off-roading. This is carried on with the Solterra offering 210 mm. For comparison, the Tesla Model Y which starts at $64,500 before-roads offers 42 mm less with 168 mm of ground clearance.
Speaking of ground clearance, the standard Solterra AWD is offered with 18-inch wheels while the Touring variant bumps these up to 20-inch wheels.
