Commonwealth countries can cut their cumulative oil bill by £2 trillion (US$3.2 In an Opinion Piece for the CAB, Dr. Lew Fulton from the University of California Davis, a GFEI partner, warns that the oil importing countries, which make up the vast majority of the Commonwealth, could face high economic costs given the explosion in the number of vehicles on their roads over the next few decades. Trinidad and Tobago is interested in starting discussions on fuel economy with the GFEI.

Canada Launches Heavy Oil Working Group to Promote Cleaner Fossil Fuels

The Government of Canada has established a Heavy Oil Working Group. The Honorable Christian Paradis, Minister of Natural Resources, initiated the working group with leaders from countries with heavy oil potential in the Americas during the Ministerial meeting of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) in Washington, DC on 16 April. The group will facilitate the exchange of information and the sharing of expertise in the area of heavy oil extraction and development.

MCW Energy Group, a Canadian holding company involved in fuel distribution and the creation of oil sands extraction technology, announced successful results of processing random Alberta oil sands tailings ponds samples in a series of preliminary laboratory tests. Clean up and remedial fees from oil companies and/or governments. The bitumen content of tailings ponds is usually up to three times the average hydrocarbon content of oil sands feedstock.

Using new seismic imaging technique, BP finds significant additional resources in the Gulf of Mexico

As a result of this early success, BP now is deploying this technique to fields elsewhere in the Gulf of Mexico as well as in Azerbaijan, Angola, and Trinidad and Tobago. The subsurface property models that are created by FWI are used to create high quality and high resolution images of oil and gas reservoirs. Established in 2016, BP’s Subsurface Technical Center specializes in advanced seismic imaging and enhanced oil recovery.
