Toyota to build battery factory for electric vehicles creates 1,750 jobs 

Toyota announced that it is planning to build a battery factory to support electric vehicles production in North Carolina. It plans for a $1.3 billion electric vehicle battery plant near Greensboro, North Carolina that will create around 1,750 job opportunities for the people. The news comes when Toyota’s announced that it will invest around $13.6 billion in battery tech over the next decade, including a $9 billion investment in production to electrify its vehicle portfolio.

The production at the facility is scheduled to begin in 2025, said Chris Reynolds, chief administrative officer for Toyota Motor North America. In the first year, the company is set to produce 1.2 million battery packs for its upcoming lineup of electric vehicles.

“This investment, which I believe is so far the largest private capital investment in North Carolina history, will create at least 1,750 new jobs and help us develop and localize automotive battery production,” Reynolds said. “Which will pave the way for battery electric vehicles built here in the United States of America,” he adds.

Toyota’s first bZ4X electric SUV 

This year in October, Toyota has teased its first battery-electric vehicle in April and now it has unveiled the production version of its first purpose-designed EV, the bZ4X SUV. The bZ4X sport utility vehicle (SUV) is the first of the seven BEVs-bZ (beyond Zero) sub-brand in a series of EV only models from Toyota which is planned to launch globally to have the zero-emissions market. The first of seven fully electric vehicles will be debuting by 2025.

The Toyota’s bZ4X SUV is equipped with a high-density lithium-ion battery that has a 71.4 kWh capacity and is water-cooled. It is powered by a front-mounted electric motor rated at 150 kW (204 PS/201 hp) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. According to Toyota, this enables the base bZ4X FWD model to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).

The company is also offering an all-wheel-drive model with two 80 kW electric motors (one on each axle) developing a total of 160 kW (217.5 PS/214.5 hp) and 336 Nm (248 lb-ft) of torque. The bZ4X AWD does 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and has the same top speed.
