Pike forecasts NEV market to remain small, although with double the growth rate of light-duty vehicles to 2017

Green Car Congress

The rise in gas prices, the aging population, and the increase in master planning and community density all point to trends that will encourage NEV adoption. In the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines NEVs as low-speed vehicles (LSVs) that are limited to 25 mph (40 km/h) and to roads with a speed limit of 35 mph. Top speed is 45 km/h (28 mph). The US currently offers federal tax incentives of 10% of the purchase price up to $2,500.

Axion Power and ePower Engine Systems enter 5-year agreement for use of PbC batteries in diesel-electric drivetrains for Class 8 trucks; tests suggest up to 35% improvement in fuel economy

Green Car Congress

We have worked with several types of batteries, including advanced lead-acid batteries, and have come to the firm conclusion that even VRLA or glass-mat batteries are not capable of sustained performance in this demanding application for over-the-road transport. In addition, PbC batteries are competitively priced, and they have a construct with a proven safety record. At a 65 mph cruise, the system is designed to operate using generator power only.

Controlled Power Technologies and Advanced Lead-Acid Battery Consortium to unveil LC Super Hybrid at Geneva show; low-cost “micro-mild” demonstrator

Green Car Congress

Technologies include an electric supercharger; next generation belt-integrated starter generator with an advanced belt tensioning system; carbon enhanced valve regulated lead–acid (VRLA) batteries which avoid the need for supercapacitors, and higher gear ratios to reduce engine speed. In 6 th gear, which is taller even than the gearing in the baseline vehicle, the 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph) top gear acceleration is reduced by 3.5 The LC Super Hybrid demonstrator.
