Following the short address on Monday during which President Barack Obama outlined the next steps for GM and Chrysler ( earlier post ), the White House posted summaries of the Presidential Auto Task Force’s assessment of the business plans provided by the two struggling automakers, which led to the terms that are currently unfolding.

Possibilities include a minivan and an Jeep Wrangler-like off-roader. Some will be electric-only, others will be extended-range vehicles in which a gasoline engine will generate electricity on board after about 40 miles of driving on a fully charged battery. They will also differ greatly in terms of vehicle type.

Chrysler used this for their EPIC Minivan and could charge at a rate of about one mile per minute. When GM installed chargers for the EV1 they used a 50amp 220V circuit that could pump over 6KW into the batteries. Some industrial sites are even set up with 440V 3 phase service.

↓ ↑ report 10 Pixls 11:45PM (4/09/2009) well i think, in a perfect world there would be some level of uniformity to the batteries per car of course not all cars would have the same pack, that would be impossible, but perhaps, an SUV pack, a sport pack, minivan pack, and like regular car or something.
