The MINI E. As the second half of the twelve-month MINI E field trial begins in the UK this week, BMW has released an overview of the outcome of interviews and objective data collected from the first three months of the December to June 2010 phase of the trial. When running purely on electrical power, it is possible to travel for up to 75 kilometers (47 miles) at a constant speed of 60 km/h (37 mph). The worldwide MINI E fleet trial was extended to China at the beginning of the year, involving the sites of Beijing and Shenzhen.

The BMW Concept ActiveE follows the all-electric MINI E as the second large-scale electric vehicle test program to be conducted in the hands of interested customers. The field tests with the MINI E as part of Project i in the US and Europe have already provided insights into the demands required of future production electric vehicles.

The sports car has an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and space for up to four occupants. A single-speed gearbox accelerates the BMW i3 Concept to an electronically governed 150 km/h (93 mph). Together, the two drive units take the vehicle to a governed top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
