BYD will provide the Colombian capital of Bogotá with a fleet of 379 pure electric buses, in a deal awarded by the capital’s TransMilenio SA mass transport authority. It will also be 60% cheaper to operate these buses, compared to traditional diesel-powered buses.

These 35 BYD buses will enter service in July of 2014 and will replace an aging fleet of conventionally powered buses. Winning this contract was a vital step in our strategy to deliver emissions-free, public-transport vehicles. This allowed the company to start selling buses in the European markets.

Eaton Corporation has signed a long-term agreement to design and supply Argentine bus manufacturer Tecnología Avanzada en Transporte S. TATSA), a company wholly owned by Consorcio Metropolitano de Transporte S.A., with a hybrid electric power system for use in buses in Argentina and throughout South America.
