If my ammeter from West Marine is correct, then just cruising takes about 50 amps and every time I accelerate even slightly, the current goes up over 200 amps. I think people experience cognitive dissonance when they see a little red Porsche sports car being the slowest car on the road.

It turns out that a great source for high-current EV parts is the Marine store. I purchased these high-current post connectors from West Marine in Portland for about $9.00. Many people end up wiring up their own boats with high-current circuits, so I'm not too surprised.
