Together with its partner Nordic Marine Oil, Neste is piloting a new Neste Marine 0.1 Co-processed marine fuel in Scandinavia, a solution helping the maritime sector to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Neste Marine 0.1 Co-processed is based on Neste Marine 0.1 low-sulfur marine fuel.

Maritime classification society the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has granted Alfa Laval the first marine approval for operating boilers on methanol. Singaporean-based tonnage provider Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), has appointed GoodFuels to supply biofuel bunkers for its 2010-built 47,377 deadweight tonne MR tanker M/T Pacific Beryl. The policy calls for the testing and use of various alternative marine fuels to significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions today.

Moller - Maersk, has invested in Vertoro , a Dutch start-up focused on developing liquid lignin technology which can be used as a marine fuel.
