Qiantu Motors, which has not found success in China, started to set its eyes on the overseas market.

On October 24, Qiantu and Appollen EV held a launch event in Malaysia to showcase the company's three models and open pre-sales there, according to the Chinese electric vehicle company's announcement yesterday.

The three models are the Qiantu K50, Qiantu K25, and Qiantu K20, and they will be renamed S1, A1, and A2 respectively in Malaysia, the company said.

It is worth mentioning that the Qiantu K25 was not previously launched in China, and the launch in Malaysia is the model's first, according to the company.

The launch attracted local dealers in Malaysia, and by the end of the launch, Qiantu had received more than 38,000 intended orders, the company said, adding that the orders would be produced at its factory in Suzhou, Jiangsu province.

In the future, Qiantu will work with Appollen EV to build a factory in Southeast Asia to develop and produce a variety of new models, it said.

Qiantu, a wholly owned subsidiary of CH-Auto Technology Co Ltd, was founded in 2015 and was one of the first EV startups in China.

Qiantu's first model, the Qiantu K50, was launched in China in 2018, but the model did not win recognition for the company and was discontinued in November 2020.

The electric vehicle startup Qiantu's electric sports car, which could be seen in China's first-tier cities several years ago, failed to successfully get consumers to accept its product and disappeared from the public eye for a time.

On December 18 last year, Qiantu held a strategy-sharing session at its factory in Suzhou, marking its return after a two-year hiatus.

On June 6, Qiantu announced the pre-sale of its second model, the Qiantu K20, a two-door, two-seat hatchback with a pre-sale price range of RMB 86,800 ($11,880) to 149,800.
