Controlled Power Technologies and Advanced Lead-Acid Battery Consortium to unveil LC Super Hybrid at Geneva show; low-cost “micro-mild” demonstrator

Green Car Congress

The LC Super Hybrid, conceived by Controlled Power Technologies (CPT) and the Advanced Lead-Acid Battery Consortium (ALABC) to show that significant CO 2 reduction can be achieved through electric hybridization at low voltages (12-48 volts) using the latest lead-carbon batteries, will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The demonstrator further develops AVL’s efficient low carbon ELC concept ( earlier post ). The LC Super Hybrid demonstrator. Click to enlarge.

Firefly Energy Receives Additional $3.3 Million Army Contract for Further Enhancement of Microcell Lead Acid Technology

Green Car Congress

Firefly’s microcell battery technology delivering 4-6 times the lifetime energy compared with traditional Valve Regulated Lead Acid (“VRLA”) batteries. The company’s first applied technology is a microcell foam-based battery technology, which can deliver a combination of high performance, low weight and low cost, all within a battery that unleashes the full power potential of lead acid chemistry while overcoming its performance drawbacks.

UK Collaboration Develops Plug-in Hybrid Retrofit for Conventional Vehicles

Green Car Congress

The development team retained the existing conventional front-wheel-drive system of the Combo but added an electric drive, powered via low-cost valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries, to the rear wheels. It can also be configured to switch manually between modes, enabling selection of ultra low emission operation in a low emission zone or city center. Axion supplying PbC batteries to Norfolk Southern for all-battery switcher and working on line-haul hybrid locomotives; micro-hybrid and stationary expansion

Green Car Congress

Compared to Li-ion batteries: PbC batteries are more affordable [3x] than lithium-ion or supercapacitors; PbC batteries have recycling value at end-of-life [$35/lbs], while Lithium-ion batteries have recycling cost at end-of-life [~$75/lbs].
