DOE awarding $35M to 11 projects for hydrokinetic turbine development; ARPA-E SHARKS

Green Car Congress

Projects are encouraged to apply concurrent (as opposed to sequential) design methodologies: control co-design, co-design, and designing for operation and maintenance. These methodologies will significantly decrease the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of the final HKT design. University of Washington. University of Virginia.

Hydrexia and HyGear partner on low-cost hydrogen distribution in Europe; solid state storage and delivery

Green Car Congress

Hydrexia says that the solid-state trailers are about half the capital cost ($/kg-H 2 ) of conventional bulk tube trailers and can reduce the total cost of hydrogen delivery by 30-40%. The system includes gas desulphurisation and water purification and can therefore be connected directly to the natural gas and feed water lines.

ARPA-E to award $27M for advanced nuclear reactor systems operational technology: GEMINA

Green Car Congress

GEMINA’s goal is to reduce fixed operations and maintenance (O&M) costs from ~13 $/MWh in the current fleet to ~2 $/MWh in the advanced fleet. These projects will work to develop digital twin technology to reduce O&M costs in the next generation of nuclear power plants. —ARPA-E Director Lane Genatowski.
