Louisiana Announces Request For Feedback On State EV Infrastructure Plan
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) has announced that it is requesting feedback from Louisiana residents and businesses regarding alternative fuel corridors. The LA DOTD also wants feedback about the use of National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program Funds.
The LA DOTD noted that over the next five years, Louisiana will receive around $73 million for EV infrastructure through President Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The agency will administer the deployment of EV charging station infrastructure throughout the state. According to LA DOTD:
“As part of the EV infrastructure deployment, the U.S. Legislature has made National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program funds available for expenditure by state transportation agencies. These funds will cover 80 percent of the EV infrastructure expenses with a minimum 20 percent state match covered by grant recipients. The NEVI program requires each state to submit a deployment plan to FHWA by August 1, 2022. LA DOTD has begun working with Louisiana Clean Fuels, Inc. and Grant Management Group, LLC to timely submit this plan.
“In addition, LA DOTD submitted an alternative fuel corridor (AFC) nomination to FHWA on May 13, 2022 to designate routes for electric chargers and hydrogen fuel. The AFC nomination is important to the overall NEVI program as we hope to provide connectivity between charging stations within Louisiana and along corridors across state lines.”
The LA DOTD is also contracting with Louisiana Clean Fuels (LCF) to develop the state’s EV charging infrastructure plan. On April 7, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edward, DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph. D., and Ann Vail from LCF shared the news at the coalition’s outdoor electric vehicle expo held at DOTD headquarters. The three discussed EV infrastructure and LCF’s new role with the LA DOTD.
LCF will work with the LA DOTD to designate both EV and hydrogen corridors, prepare the state’s EV charging infrastructure plan in accordance with the NEVI guidance, and also convert the DOTD’s fleet to alternative fuels. You can read more about LCF’s new role here.
