FedEx has deployed 20 gasoline hybrid electric vehicles (gHEVs) on parcel delivery routes in the Sacramento and Los Angeles areas. NREL started a 12-month in-use technology evaluation comparing in-use fuel economy and maintenance costs of gHEVs and comparative diesel parcel delivery trucks in April 2009. Ah NimH battery pack.

The team also found no statistically significant difference in fuel cost per mile or maintenance cost per mile between the gHEV and diesel groups.

In addition to the vehicle’s introduction in Japan, Toyota launched the Mirai—a four-door, mid-size fuel cell sedan with performance that fully competes with traditional internal combustion engines—in Los Angeles on the eve of the Los Angeles Auto Show. Toyota is using a NiMH battery in the Mirai.

2010 Prius designed to be manufactured with NiMH or Lithium batteries. The Omori factory currently produces NiMH cells. Felix and I might differ on that -- Felix and I were talking the other day -- but we dont expect the battery and the battery maintenance to be part of the ownership cost of your car.
