FAW-GM launches diesel light-duty truck, the Jiefang F330 Super; 6-8% more fuel efficient than competition

FAW-GM has launched its first premium light-duty truck, the Jiefang F330 Super, in Beijing. The F330 Super was developed by GM and FAW and is powered by a Deutz 3.0-liter 4DD diesel engine.

The engine incorporates key core technologies, including a variable geometry turbocharger, optimized 1,800 bar high-pressure common rail system, and air and fuel filtration systems.

Generating up to 150 hp (112 kW), the engine is the most powerful in its class despite being the lightest and smallest. Its top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) is 20% faster than the top speed of engines in other models on the market, GM said. The engine is also 6-8% more fuel efficient than its competitors’ engines. It meets the China IV emissions standard and has the potential to meet the Euro V and Euro VI emissions standards.

The engine has a service interval of 10,000 km (6,200 miles) and an overhaul interval of 300,000 km (186,000 miles). Both are more than twice as long as the intervals for other models in the F330 Super’s segment in China, according to GM.

The F330 Super is built on a specially designed chassis from FAW that is matched with a reinforced rear axle. This gives it an enhanced load capacity while reducing axle noise and lowering tire edge temperatures, for more steady and reliable performance. The light-duty truck’s advanced design and modular systems reduce the number of parts by more than 20% compared to similar models.

Double seals and the application of acoustic insulation materials in the doors significantly reduce noise inside the cab. In addition, the F330 Super’s engine produces 5-8 db less noise than engines in other products on the market.

The newest model from GM China’s joint venture with FAW will address the need for efficient, cost-effective transportation in the domestic commercial vehicle segment. The demand for short- and medium-distance freight transportation in China is on the rise due to the growing infrastructure and growth of e-commerce.
