Kia begins export production of Kia Soul EV; initial production planned to hit 5,000 units

Kia Motors has begun volume production of its new all-electric Kia Soul EV ( earlier post ) for export sales at its Kia’s Gwangju facility in Korea. Although the Soul EV is Kia’s first electric vehicle to be marketed by the company outside Korea, it is the company’s second-generation battery electric vehicle. Acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) will take 11.2 seconds, while top speed is in the region of 145 km/h (90 mph).

Kia introduces new mild hybrid powertrain, 7-speed DCT

Kia’s 48V mild hybrid system uses a lead-carbon battery. Kia revealed a new mild hybrid powertrain as well as its new 7-speed DCT at the Geneva Motor Show. Developed by Kia’s European R&D centre, the new hybrid system employs a 48V lead-carbon battery, which powers a small electric motor to increase the engine’s power output and cut exhaust emissions. The mild hybrid powertrain will be available on new diesel and gasoline production cars from Kia in the near future.

Kia unveils Soul EV at Chicago Auto Show

Kia introducing bi-fuel gasoline-LPG Picanto in Europe

Responding to growing customer demand in Europe for small cars with low running costs and low emissions, Kia is introducing a bi-fuel gasoline-LPG model to its Picanto small car range. Picanto LPG is powered by a special version of Kia’s three-cylinder 1.0-liter Kappa engine which produces 67 ps (66 hp, 49 kW) and 90 N·m (66 lb-ft) of torque.
