From MG Motor comes another EV kid for the Indian EV segment

MG Motor India is preparing to launch its latest electric vehicle for the Indian market, which will be the company’s cheapest and smallest electric vehicle. The company has announced that its upcoming smart EV will be called the MG Comet. According to the news, the MG Comet EV’s Indian launch date is April 2023.

MG Motors or Morris Garages is a British brand known for its sports cars and mini cars. With its premium design, industry-leading technology, and safety features, MG vehicles are known as a premium brand.  And the upcoming EV will come in similar qualifying forms.

To meet urban mobility needs, the MG Comet will make its debut. The company wants to offer people such a mobility solution with the Comet EV. This helps people solve their parking problems and save money in the long run.

A little while ago, news broke that MG Motor would soon launch its Air EV electric car in India. However, now news has come that it has been given another name in India.

Comet is the name of MG Motor India’s next electric vehicle. This electric car is named after the British aircraft that competed in the 1934 Australia-England McRobertson Air Race.

As for the equipment of MG’s upcoming EV kid, the MG Comet will get a front-wheel drive system that is expected to be around 2.9 meters long. The MG Comet was developed on the company’s latest GSEV platform. Dual 10.25-inch displays are also available in this car. The MG Comet EV will have even more features, including a touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, autonomous driving, and connected vehicle technology.

A distinctive feature of this compact electric car is its interior. It has two screens and also features a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. Depending on the weather conditions in India, MG Motor India will make some modifications to this electric vehicle.

The MG Comet will have a 20kWh to 25kWh battery pack and is expected to produce around 40 hp. Achieves an electric cruising range of approximately 200km on a single charge. The battery pack features cylindrical LFP cells similar to the Tata Nexon EV. Its cylindrical LFP cells are lightweight and easy to charge, and the company will source batteries for its upcoming electric vehicles from Tata Autocomp.

Size-wise, this MG Comet is smaller than the Alto 800. Parking a large car in the city can be a hassle. However, the MG Comet is a small electric car, so it doesn’t take up much space and can be driven on public roads without any problems. It is built on the global small electric vehicle platform, where both two-seater and four-seater options are expected, especially in China.

The overseas model has a total length of 2,599 mm, a total width of 1,505 mm, a long wheelbase of 2,974 mm, and a total width of 1,631 mm. It will be interesting to see MG Motor bring it in the same size or a new size in India as well.

Its price will be announced soon. In some news, however, MG Motor’s MG Comet Electric Car will be available between Rs 100,000 and Rs 150,000. The MG Comet EV will be available in two variants – standard wheelbase and long wheelbase.
