Bharat Petroleum installs Eastern India’s first EV fast charging corridors

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)

The Sambalpur-Arjunda and Sambalpur-Raipur-Nagpur roads now have the first EV rapid charging corridor in Eastern India, per Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) authorities.

The quick charging corridors were set up by Shri P.S. Ravi, Executive Director Incharge (Retail), Head Retail East Debashis Naik, State Head Retail Odisha & Jharkhand Priyadarshee Panda, and other important BPCL officials.

Along the Sambalpur-Arjunda and Sambalpur-Raipur-Nagpur routes, the BPCL installed 19 EV charging stations in its fuel stations. Moreover, these include two 30 KW quick charging stations primarily built to ease the concern of electric car owners, who favour long distance driving.

By March 31st, 2023, 200 EV fast charging pathways will be available at BPCL, according to the officials. This represents a significant advancement for clean transportation and zero-emission cars.

The inaugural ceremony also included EV vehicles rally in which many EV owners drove their electric vehicles, from Bargarh to Sambalpur. The rally took place through the streets and not through the NH with a main focus to promote sustainable mobility.

Fast charging corridors and their purpose

Fast charging corridors are routes designed to support electric vehicle (EV) drivers with quick and convenient charging options during long-distance travels. These corridors typically feature multiple fast-charging stations, allowing EV drivers to recharge their vehicles quickly and efficiently.

Also, the fast charging corridors will eliminate the range anxiety commonly experienced by EV drivers, especially on long trips. By providing reliable and accessible charging options, fast charging corridors encourage the adoption of electric vehicles by making them a more practical and convenient option for everyday use. Additionally, the creation of fast charging corridors supports the growth of a sustainable transportation system, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a cleaner environment.

How does it work?

The rapid charging corridors will help customers charge their vehicles within certain time range. However, the time range can vary depending on the vehicle’s battery capacity and the charging station’s power output. Nonetheless, it’s essential to note that the charging time also depends on the specific electric vehicle’s compatibility with fast-charging stations.
