It also features an EV+ mode for hill climbing and added acceleration.

Some previous Prius plug-in conversion kits allowed motorists to go as fast as 52 miles per hour using a “forced stealth” mode.

The new powertrain line—the EDI PowerDrive 8000—will be available in the first half of 2018 in both all electric and plug-in hybrid form factors (PHEV). The EDI PowerDrive kit offers OEMs a modular design for easy integration into existing chassis designs and enables rapid vehicle solution introductions.

Thomas said that ALTe is building a robustly engineered, professional quality, mass production powertrain conversion kit assembly operation and plans to produce up to 90,000 powertrains per year.

If that’s your theory then you may have to re-evaluate after Ponway, California-based Plug-In Conversions Corp (PICC) completed a software upgrade conversion kit that enables all-electric mode driving at up to 70mph in a converted Prius. The software upgrade will retail for $2,000-$2,500 and be made available for sale later this month.
