SAIC-GM-Wuling is China’s first vehicle manufacturer to reach 1M units in sales in 2011

On October 14, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) became the first vehicle manufacturer in China to sell 1 million units in the domestic market this year.
SGMW’s sales in the first nine months of 2011 were up 6.6% on an annual basis, taking its share of the mini-vehicle segment to 46%. Monthly sales of the Wuling Hong Guang compact MPV, which was launched a year ago, have averaged more than 20,000 units.
On August 9, SGMW launched the first product from its Baojun brand, the 630 midsize sedan. It is available at 120 Baojun 4S stores nationwide.
SGMW has continued to grow its export sales as well, reaching its full-year target by the end of September. It is also expanding its exports of complete knockdown (CKD) kits for assembly at other GM facilities around the globe. SGMW continues to explore new opportunities for its products in other markets.
SGMW, a joint venture between GM China, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC) and Wuling Motors, was launched in 2002. It is based in Liuzhou, Guangxi. SGMW manufactures a range of Wuling brand mini-trucks and minivans as well as the Chevrolet Le Chi mini-car and Baojun 630 midsize sedan. In 2010, SGMW had record domestic sales of 1,226,860 vehicles.
Amazing growth. There are over 55 vehicle manufacturers in China. If they all did as well, that would mean more than 55,000,000 vehicles per year. That may become a reality one or two decades from now.
China may very well be the fist country to produce over 1,000,000 electrified vehicles a year by 2015/2020?
Their high speed e-train system is also expanding at about the same rate or more.
