Two Crore Electric Vehicles By 2030 In India: Nitin Gadkari

Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Roads, Transport, and Highways, stated by 2030, there will be two crore electric vehicles  in the country.

On the second day of the three-day “Global Investors Summit,” the session on e-mobility cars & future mobility, Gadkari said e-mobility has enormous potential and urged investors to invest in this industry to save ecology and the environment.

The push towards electric vehicles is in response to the growing concern over air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution, and the need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Gadkari said “the country spends around 16 lakh crore for importing petrol and diesel. As a result, we have to switch from being an energy importing nation to one that exports energy, achieving our  Prime Minister’s vision of an independent India to become Atma nirbhar (Self-reliant India).”

Considering the factors including environmental, fossil fuels, and poverty, he said by 2030, there will be two crore electric vehicles in the country. An increase in e-mobility not only protects the environment but also increases the financial growth of the country.

The target of 2 crore electric vehicles by 2030 is a significant one that can create employment in the manufacturing and charging infrastructure sectors. Gadkari also stated that the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways contributes 40 percent to it. Additionally, he emphasised the necessity of running affordable electric buses in UP.

Gadkari suggested that the state government formulate a policy to meet the requirement for batteries for electric vehicles, noting that doing so would lead to a significant increase in employment and the potential for the state to become a hub for the battery industry.
