In other words, if for some reason the idea of a PHEV Wrangler bothers you, relax. Yes, you get a plug-in hybrid setup. When the all-electric Kia Niro was introduced in 2019 it followed the 2017 Niro hybrid and then the 2018 Niro plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The Niro EV has an EPA estimated driving range of 239 miles, but in our real-world driving delivered 273 miles. Juicing up. Have aliens landed?

BYD , for examples, says their 60 mile range-extended vehicle can add 30 miles of range in ten minutes. I dont like the idea of leasing a battery pack, or project Better Places pay for however-so-many miles on a plan and whatnot. Of course, EVs that arent designed for battery swaps wont use it, and plug-in hybrids wont need it.
