The Department of Energy (DOE) plans to switch to an all-hybrid fleet within three years, and is leasing 753 hybrids from GSA this year: 334 Ford Fusions, 273 Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks, 145 Ford Escape sport utility vehicles and one Honda Insight. DOE paid for the additional cost of leasing hybrid vehicles.

The month also saw the debut of three new hybrids—the Honda Insight and the Ford Fusion and Milan—all of which only came on sale toward the end of the month. In its partial month debut, the new Honda Insight sold 569 units. 68 units of the Silverado and Sierra two-mode pickups (0.22% of total sales).

Reported sales of hybrids in the US reported by Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM and Nissan dropped 45.5% year-on-year in April to 21,735, despite full month sales for the new Honda Insight and the Ford Fusion and Milan hybrids. 95 units of the two-mode pickups (Silverado, Sierra), representing 0.27% of sales of those models.
