BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has rolled out the Yuan Up, a compact electric SUV that becomes its latest affordable model.

The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker officially launched the Yuan Up, the latest addition to the Yuan family in its Dynasty lineup, at a launch event today. The other product lineup of the BYD brand is the Ocean series.

The Yuan Up is the first A0-class SUV on BYD's all-electric e-Platform 3.0. The A0-class usually refers to those with a wheelbase between 2.2 and 2.5 meters.

BYD is offering three options for the Yuan Up, with starting prices of RMB 96,800 ($13,400), RMB 109,800, and RMB 119,800.

The model measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm, slightly larger than the regular A0-class models.

Its entry-level version is powered by a 32-kWh blade battery that provides a CLTC range of 301 kilometers. The other two versions both carry blade batteries with a capacity of 45.12-kWh and both have a CLTC range of 401 kilometers.

The car supports fast charging, capable of charging from 30 percent to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

The BYD Yuan Up is powered by an permanent magnet synchronous motor across the range. Its entry-level version has a motor with a peak power of 70 kW and peak torque of 180 Nm, which enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 12 seconds.

The other two have more powerful motors, both with 130 kW of peak power and 290 Nm of peak torque, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

BYD is offering exterior color options for the Yuan Up including green, white, pink and gray in an attempt to cater to the preferences of a younger demographic.

The company is also offering a limited-time purchase entitlements for the model, with customers who buy before June 30 receiving benefits including a RMB 2,000 trade-in subsidy and a 24-period 0-interest loan.

Yuan Up is expected to help BYD reach a wider potential customer base with lower prices and a design favored by young people.

The company's average revenue per passenger car sold in 2023 were about RMB 135,000, CnEVPost calculations based on data from BYD's earnings report released earlier today show.

The Yuan family, including the Yuan Plus and Yuan Pro, has been one of the best-selling BYD models over the past two years, selling more than 30,000 units in most months of 2023, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

For all of 2023, the Yuan family sold 428,580 units, contributing 14 percent of BYD's annual NEV sales of 3,024,417.

The Yuan Up is expected to help BYD achieve higher sales targets as the company looks to accelerate the replacement of traditional gasoline vehicles.

BYD is poised to announce a target of 4 million units, and has given suppliers a higher sales forecast of 4.2 million, according to a February 26 report by local media outlet 36kr.
