Since traffic is really light on Sunday morning, I drove to work (15 miles away) and back to see how the 914 would handle. I'm not sure how much current these golf cart batteries are designed for. Shifting was a real pain on city streets since the electric motor changes RPM very quickly during acceleration or regeneration.

In the process, I got some two-conductor wire to make the connections to the potbox switch and backup-light switch cleaner. Here's the side of the transmission with the two-conductor cable installed on the backup-light switch. Here's the somewhat finished potbox.

It's a pity that we have to remove this, but the size of the golf-cart batteries clearly interfere with the latch. Just for grins, I also shorted out the two terminals on the lower terminal block tied to the rear lights and (voila!) Here's the sawed off hood latch. The 914 uses pressure from the spare tire (??!!)

The 8-volt golf cart batteries arrived over 24 days ago and have just been sitting on the garage floor, discharging. The lower charge rate can be plugged into a 15-amp outlet that has a few other light loads attached. This is inside the driver-side fuel compartment looking forward.

We should be concentrating on eliminating the hoggiest of the hogs by hybridizing them or reducing their acceleration which BY ITSELF reduces consumption since it leads drivers to unlearn stop and go driving, instead timing arrival at lights to when they are green. You guys go ahead and buy your 40 mile per charge GM golf cart.
