After a succession of carefully staged events for media and the public, we now know that the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will include at least two models: a sport utility truck (or SUT), with four doors and a short pickup bed, and a more conventional SUV. In short, the GMC Hummer EV is meant to make electric cars badass in the public eye.

As a result of new CEO Mary Barra’s request for a comprehensive internal safety review following the ignition switch recall, General Motors announced three separate recalls involving US production and sales of approximately: 303,000 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana from the 2009-2014 model years with gross vehicle weight under 10,000 pounds.

They’ve seen Super Bowl ads for the GMC Hummer EV , or heard news about the lengthy, painful Chevrolet Bolt EV battery recall. GMC started as a commercial-truck brand, and made largely the same light-duty trucks as Chevrolet. Sure, the Hummer is now back as a 9,000-pound EV truck, but it’s sold under the GMC luxury-truck brand.

In the US, GM will focus on its core brands; Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. Pontiac will serve as a focused brand with fewer entries, within the Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel. Saturn will remain in operation for the next several years, through the end of the planned lifecycle for all Saturn products.

GM is bringing back the Hummer brand as an EV within the GMC brand. During this same time GM created Saturn , a totally new brand, which arrived in 1990 with its own showrooms, advertising and vehicles.
