Honda plans to double its annual output to 4.6 million motorbikes in India. That target, if it is reached, would be a record, exceeding the 18.11 million motorbikes it made in fiscal 2010. It will spend 60 billion yen [US$780 million] to boost capacity, mainly in Asia.

...In Thailand, Honda will roll out bikes with large engines. The company will move the production of 500cc models aimed at developed countries to the Southeast Asian country. It has produced 250cc models for the global market in Thailand since 2010. In Vietnam, Honda will ramp up its capacity by 50% to 3 million bikes and start making global models with smaller engines there.

Total global motorcycle sales totaled about 54.2 million units in 2010, up about 10% from the previous year, with Honda controlling 33% of the market. Its market share is believed to have fallen to the 20% range in 2011, the Nikkei said, as its production capacity fell by 5.4 million units after it ended its partnership with India’s Hero MotoCorp Ltd.
