Critical new 2024 Porsche Macan EV days away from global reveal and just months from Aussie launch

Porsche has begun building the anticipation for the launch of the all-new battery-electric Porsche Macan on January 25.

Set to land in our dealers in the fourth quarter of 2024, the first tease of the new mid-size electric SUV is a clear picture of its rear taillamp that is expected to stretch across the entire width of the Porsche Macan.

The Macan EV is the first Porsche battery electric SUV and in some markets will be sold alongside the ICE Macan. In Australia there is not expected to be an overlap.

Despite being much heavier than the mid-size SUV it replaces, we already know that performance will be in another league to the outgoing Macan with the dual-motor versions delivering upwards of 450kW and 1000Nm of torque, while the 800-volt electrical architecture will enable fast-charging at up to 270kW.

Developed alongside the incoming Audi Q6 e-tron, the new Macan will be one of the first vehicles to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s latest PPE platform, Porsche says the Macan EV will come with a 100kWh lithium-ion battery that should provide for a driving range of up to 500km.

Other big changes include a switch to a swoopier SUV-coupe shape that helps lower its drag coefficient to just 0.25Cd.

More good news for those who bought the last car for its driving capabilities, the 2024 Porsche Macan will remain at the very top of its class when it comes to handling, say the engineers who developed it.

Giving it the dynamic edge is a rear-biased all-wheel drive system, adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

To help guarantee durability, the Macan has already undergone more than 3.5 million kilometres testing in baking heat and in freezing temperatures on paved roads, gravel, snow and rough terrain.

The Macan borrows plenty from the latest Porsche Panamera, offering a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster that can now display Apple CarPlay.

There will also be a new head-up display that will employ augmented reality to indicate what lane you should be in for more accurate turn-by-turn navigation.

As standard, the Macan will come equipped with a 10.9-inch infotainment system with an additional 10.9-inch display offered as an option for the front passenger, allowing them to stream video or adjust the infotainment or navigation.

There’s no indication how much the all-new Macan EV will cost when it lands next summer but the current petrol-fed SUV is priced from around $93,800 plus on-roads, suggesting the new car will be accompanied by a six-figure price tag.
