With experience at Apple and Porsche , Jonas Reinke joins Rivian to help launch its new EV platforms, including R2 and R3. Rivian hired former Mercedes-Benz exec Arnehelm Mittelbach in November as its first plant manager for its new Georgia facility, where R2 will be built. However, it isn’t planned to launch until 2026.

In 2004, he left Porsche for Daimler, the place he rose to director of technique for Mercedes-Benz Vehicles prior to turning back Porsche in 2010. The Hyundai deal got a ways down the road, as it was reported in February that a $3.59B deal would see the two use the Kia plant in West Point, Georgia to jointly manufacture cars. Like hiring Manfred Harrer from Porsche, who was Porsche’s VP of Chassis Development. Both companies enjoyed a stock bump due to the exciting news.

To date, only the Porsche Taycan and its platform twin the Audi e-tron GT have 800-volt batteries—though Tesla’s 400-volt batteries can briefly charge at up to 250 kW. First sales this fall will be limited to 10 ZEV states, plus Arizona, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas.
