Mitsubishi plug-in hybrid Outlander going on sale in Russia in September

At the Moscow International Automobile Salon 2014, Mitsubishi presented its four-wheel drive SUV plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the Outlander PHEV (earlier post); sales of the Outlander PHEV will start in Russia from September, 2014.

The Outlander PHEV is the top-selling plug-in in Europe. With almost 11,000 units sold so far this year and 8440 units in 2013 (its launch year), the almost 20,000 units sold make Europe the Outlander’s largest market. (Sales figures from EV Sales.)

Mitsubishi also brought two of its advanced concept models to Moscow: the MITSUBISHI Concept GC-PHEV and MITSUBISHI Concept XR-PHEV (earlier post).

The Outlander PHEV drive system is based on the technology of the i-MiEV EV, and features a Twin Motor 4WD system with independent motors in front and rear.

Concept GC-PHEV is a next-generation full-size PHEV SUV with full-time 4WD. Its front-engine, rear-wheel drive PHEV architecture includes a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged MIVEC gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, a high-output motor and a high-capacity battery to deliver all-terrain performance.

Concept XR-PHEV is a next-generation compact plug-in hybrid electric crossover using a front-wheel drive PHEV system including a 1.1-liter direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC gasoline engine, a lightweight, compact and high-efficiency motor and a high-capacity battery.
