The Intermountain Power Agency (IPA) has awarded Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) a contract for two M501JAC power trains for the Intermountain Power Plant (IPP) in Delta, Utah. This transition will start in 2025, when the turbines will be commercially guaranteed capable of using a mix of 30% hydrogen and 70% natural gas fuel.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has taken steps to transition out of the use of coal-fired electricity earlier than mandated by California state law. IPP is owned by 23 municipal utilities in Utah and supplies power to 30 utilities in Utah and six utilities in Southern California, including LADWP.

We are beginning to get a sense of regional variation in methane emissions from natural gas production. The gas fields we studied for this paper produced about 20% of the natural gas in the United States, and more than half the shale gas, so this moves us closer to understanding methane leaks from US natural gas production.
