First natural gas GM half-ton pickups with 5.3L DI engines delivered in Texas

GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado trucks for each fleet were upgraded to run on either natural gas or gasoline using the new DuraDrive DI natural gas system, supplied by Utah-based AGA Systems. The 2015 model vehicles were purchased by local Houston company NewTex Plumbing and San Antonio-based Pioneer Energy Services.

The story begins with a company in Utah called Raser Technologies. VTRUX trucks (Silverados) were claimed to manage 25 miles per gallon combined. VIA was focused on fleet sales and a low cost of ownership. The math worked out (per VIA) that after eight years of use, fleet customers would save roughly a third on ownership costs.
