The competition challenges university engineering students across North America to re-engineer a 2009 Saturn VUE to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions while retaining the vehicle’s performance and consumer appeal. In year two of the competition, teams incorporate their unique powertrains into the Saturn VUE.

Aside from a box lunch, a couple of bottles of water and two absolutely delicious chocolate chip cookies, GCC received no compensation, expense reimbursement or branded merchandise from GM to attend the event. A pure HCCI mode, during light to medium loads, when no spark event is required for combustion. Establishing four core brands.

Feet, pedals and electric motors only will make for a much more pleasant and greener event. Contracts for lithium batteries for the plug-in hybrid Saturn Vue and the Chevrolet Volt have received much press. Back after Labor Day. At the recent SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, General Motors engineers presented the first front-wheel-drive (FWD) iteration of their two-mode hybrid transaxle, termed the 2MT70 ( earlier post ), scheduled for its first application in the Saturn 2009 VUE 2-Mode Hybrid light sport-utility vehicle later this year ( earlier post ).

General Motors has announced its intention to mass-produce two PHEVs -- a Saturn VUE SUV, and the Chevy Volt, a series hybrid (where only the electric motor powers the wheels and the gasoline engine recharges the batteries).
