AeroVironment licenses PNNL EV smart charger controller technology

has licensed smart charging controller technology developed at the US Department of Energy (DOE) Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) for incorporation into its charging station equipment. The Grid Friendly EV Charger Controller technology notifies the car’s battery charger when to start and stop charging based upon existing conditions on the electrical grid. If a million owners plug in their vehicles to recharge after work, it could cause a major strain on the grid.

It collects data both on power generation and electric vehicle recharging. Nikkei. Mitsubishi Corp. Power companies buy windmill electricity generated during the daytime and resell it to households, factories and buildings. But they often are not interested in buying power produced at night because of weak demand.
